Salon Today, the predominant business publication that covers the high-end salon trade, has named Westlake Village’s the Canyon Salon the second runner-up in its annual ‘Salons of the Year’ interior design competition.
Coming in third behind Blo in Raleigh, N.C., and Stem Hair and Body salon in a faraway place called Merriam, Kan., the Canyon Salon was lauded by the magazine’s panel of judges for its sleek lighting design and Old Hollywood-meets-industrial-loft furnishings and architecture.
Brent Schneider was the architect for the salon and spa, which cost $650,000 to build out, and features 31 salon chairs lined up within its sprawling 4,500 square feet.
The 100 salons competing in the publication’s annual competition were either newly constructed or remodeled salons that opened between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2011.
‘Our judges were impressed by Canyon Salon’s vintage Hollywood style, including an elegant chandelier in the reception area and the marble finishes throughout,’ says Stacey Soble, editor in chief of Salon Today.
Salons were judged in six design categories: use of color, lighting, flooring, efficient use of space, consistency of design and overall aesthetics. Judges included editors for the magazine, veteran salon and spa owners and a handful of salon and spa consultants.
The pretty, modern interiors — which remind us of a slightly more mod Kelly Wearstler-designed space — just might make the trek up to Westlake Village worth it.
