Celeb makeup artist Scott Barnes sets up shop in L.A

Ever envy Jennifer Lopez’s golden glow? Duh. Makeup artist Scott Barnes is the person responsible for making the entertainer’s skin shimmer with that even, always-tan color, not to mention the fluttery eyelashes and sculpted cheeks that have become her signature beauty look.
Barnes, who for 26 years has been based in New York, with plenty of trips to the West Coast and beyond to work on other celebrity clients like Kelly Rowlands, Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion, has recently set up a space at Salon Republic in West Hollywood, where he will see clients on an appointment-only basis.
He shares the space with hair stylist Frank Galasso, who previously owned Frank Studios in Santa Monica and famously tends to the tresses of Kim Kardashian. The duo have created a one-stop glam shop, with a glass counter filled with Barnes’ custom designed false eyelashes (most lash styles are named after his famous clients, such as Demi Moore and Lucy Liu) and shelves stocked with their favorite products from Joico, Japonaise and Barnes’ popular Body Bling temporary body glow.
“What we do here is what we do on set,” says Barnes “We fix you and make sure everything is perfect.”
Also on display in the studio is Barnes’ beauty how-to tome “About Face,” the book he released in 2010 which features Lopez on the cover and teaches makeup novices how to pinpoint their strongest features and transform themselves with the right makeup and techniques. He’s just wrapped up his second book, a collaboration with Galasso called “Face to Face” that showcases Kardashian, their mutual client, on the cover.
The makeup artist also has plans to relaunch his makeup line, which originally debuted on QVC in 2004 (and shuttered in 2008) to wide success, particularly among makeup artists, some of whom still scrape and savor the popular Lip Slicks carried in their makeup kits.
Barnes and Galasso plan to be in their studio two to three times a week, between their regular editorial, advertising and red-carpet duties. Anyone can make an appointment, no SAG card needed. But, this glam squad comes with a red-carpet price tag. Barnes charges $1,500 for a makeup lesson with him and $500 for makeup ($150 to have your makeup done by his assistant who trains under him). Haircuts with Galasso come in around $200 and color starts at $150. Services are also offered a la carte; getting a pair of Barnes’ fluttery J Lo-esque lashes applied, for instance, costs $20 and as we all know from those red-brown fox fur lashes Barnes put on Lopez for the 2001 Oscars, a set of faux lashes could make all the difference.
