‘I went to usgovinfo
Where I read life-changing facts
Our birth rates are running low
We need to act!
I’m a patriot first and foremost
Took an oath and I have sworn
Don’t be forlorn
Enter me and be born’
The above lyrics, set to Journey-like electric-guitar power chords, belong to the song ‘American Angels,’ the main theme from the upcoming show ‘Octomom the Musical.’
A sample of the anthem is now available on the musical’s official website, along with a snippet from another song, the suggestively titled ‘Opening the Gates.’ The songs for ‘Octomom’ are written by Rachael Lawrence with lyrics by the show’s creator, Chris Voltaire. The musical is set to open July 1 at the Paul Gleason Theater in Hollywood.
The show uses the story of an opportunistic young woman who becomes the mother of octuplets as a springboard to explore the national ethos of greed in a time of economic collapse.
Other songs in the show feature a corrupt financier named Bernie Schmadoff as well as scenes between Octomom and her doctor, in which she ponders during a moment of weakness, ‘I need the man, and not the seed.’
