NT Live presents ‘All’s Well That Ends Well’ on the silver screen

In June, Britain’s National Theatre kicked off its broadcast series to cinemas worldwide with Racine’s ‘Phedre,’ starring Helen Mirren.

The company’s follow-up, Shakespeare’s ‘All’s Well That Ends Well,’ isn’t nearly as starry, but it does boast the first play broadcast from the company’s largest space -- the Olivier, featuring an open stage and fan-shaped auditorium. Directed by Marianne Elliott, the play features Oliver Ford Davies, Clare Higgins, Conleth Hill, George Rainsford and Michelle Terry.

In L.A., audiences can catch the broadcast at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mann Chinese 6 cinemas at the Hollywood & Highland center. Tickets are priced at $20, not including service charges.

Reviewing ‘Phedre,’ Times critic Charles McNulty wrote that ‘in terms of the physical experience, the cinema’s roomy seats with ample leg-room were a distinct advantage -- it was as though we at the Mann were flying business while playgoers at the National were stuck in coach.’

He added: ‘The volume seemed a touch too loud throughout and there were a couple of garbled transmission moments, but for an inaugural run it went smoothly.’
