Check out Scott Hove’s crazy cakes

Scott Hove will be showing off a morbid collision of confection and carnage at the opening of his show ‘Iced Out’ on Friday. The sculptures, which will be on display at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, appear to be as saccharine as any princess cake, but are actually inedible.
The wall-mounted sculptures are formed using polyurethane foam and plywood, and the giant walk-through cake installations are constructed of cardboard, plywood and various found objects. They’re then frosted using traditional cake decorating tools and accessorized with fake fruit.
The opening reception for the exhibition will take place Friday, complete with (faceless) nibbles from Sharlena Fong of Nickel Diner and the All American Softy ice cream truck.
The event is also celebrating owner Billy Shire’s expansion of the La Luz de Jesus Gallery; he has closed his Culver City location and will be showcasing his iconic curated ‘low-brow,’ pop surrealist, outsider and folk art work at the newly expanded space.
La Luz de Jesus is located at the Soap Plant / Wacko building, 4633 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles. Artist reception: Friday, 8 to 11 p.m. Gallery hours: Monday to Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday, 11a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.
