‘Tussilago’ makes L.A. premiere at Hammer on Thursday

Graphic novels and animation continue to push into bold new areas of expression and storytelling, and increasingly with the spirit of political commentary or exposé.

More and more we see firebrand works that speak to the vivid heritage of documentary film, political cartooning and propaganda art -- and they also seem to possess an of-the-moment texture, a kinetic canvas for the 21st century of people, politics and pixels.

Check out the trailer, for instance, for the short film ‘Tussilago,’ by celebrated Swedish animator Jonas Odell, and its tale of love and terrorism set in the 1970s ...

‘Tussilago’ makes its Los Angeles premiere at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the FLUX Screening Series at the Hammer Museum; it will be shown with other works by Odell (such as ‘Strict Machine,’ his music video with Goldfrapp, and ‘Take Me Out,’ with Franz Ferdinand).
