Here’s a little sneak peek at a design appearing in the next issue of Brand X, coming out Wednesday. My colleague Alexandria Le Tellier writes about the Flow2 kitchen concept by John Arndt and Wonhee Jeong of Studio Gorm. It’s part of the ‘Call & Response’ exhibition running through Oct. 31 at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Ore.
The concept: Save energy and reduce waste by creating a single space where food can be grown, stored, cooked and composted. Le Tellier reports that features include a hanging dish rack that sends dripping water onto an herb garden below. The cutting board slides, so food scraps can be easily swept into the composting bin below. The large orange containers are evaporative cooling fridge boxes used to store vegetables, fruit, eggs, cheese and butter. “The space between the double walls is filled with water, which slowly seeps through the outer wall and evaporates, causing the inside temperature to cool,” the designers’ statement says.
There’s a nifty diagram detailing all the features, but if I showed it here, you’d have one less reason to pick up Brand X this week.
