It sounds like a joke missing its punchline, but the photos above prove that a Desert Hot Springs puppy actually did become stuck after sticking his head through a hole in a wall on Monday.
Riverside County animal services officers responded Monday afternoon to a call from a friend of the puppy’s owner, The Times’ local news blog L.A. Now reported. The friend had heard the 8-month-old German shepherd whimpering from the spot in which he was stuck; his owner wasn’t home.
It’s unclear just why the puppy, named Rebel, stuck his head through the hole, but the officers -- one standing on each side of the wall -- were eventually able to free him from his awlward position. ‘[Rebel] let us know if we were pushing too hard -- but he kept working right along with us,’ said Sgt. James Huffman, one of the responding officers. ‘He helped a lot. You could see his hind legs stiffen to assist in the direction we were going. He knew we were there to save him.’
The puppy was uninjured and left in the care of his owner’s friend. A representative from the animal services department planned to get in touch with the owner about installing chicken wire to prevent a repeat performance.
