Assembly Speaker John Pérez of Los Angeles has appointed a fellow Democrat, Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield, to the California Film Commission.

The film and television industry is an important part of Blumenfield’s Woodland Hills-based district in the San Fernando Valley. The commission works to keep production -- and jobs -- in the state.

‘In my community, a job making movies or television has long been a way for working people to provide for their families,’ Blumenfeld said in a statement announcing his appointment to the commission.

‘The Valley’s roots in this industry began with the great movie ranches of yesteryear, which have since become major entertainment studios that produce content enjoyed by audiences around the world,’ he said.
