Gov. Jerry Brown’s voter approval ratings soft, Field Poll finds

Fewer than half of California’s voters say they approve of the job Jerry Brown is doing as governor, according to a new survey.

Overall, “he receives more positive than negative job ratings from voters, with 47% approving and 36% disapproving,” the Field Poll reports. Brown’s numbers, while soft, are among the highest of any politician in the state.

President Obama enjoyed a 48% approval rating from California voters in a survey released this month. But voters’ feelings are stronger about the president than the governor. Of those surveyed, 44% said they disapproved of Obama’s job performance. Fewer said that about Brown.

Still, Brown will need to increase his support among voters to pass his new tax plan, which is expected to be filed with the attorney general’s office as early as Monday.
