British soul revivalist VV Brown has resurfaced with the first offering from her as-yet-untitled sophomore album.

The singer premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Children,’ on Tuesday. Produced by Chuck Harmony (Fantasia, Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson, Jennifer Hudson), the track isn’t a major departure from the retro-soul Brown served on her debut album, 2010’s ‘Traveling Like the Light.’

‘Children’ has the potential to play nicely on radio as it interpolates the instantly recognizable schoolyard/ice cream truck jam “Do Your Ears Hang Low?,” features a verse from Chiddy of Chiddy Bang and has a sticky, chant-like chorus perfect for sing-alongs.

Brown won over critics with her brand of soul that balances retro rockabilly with accessible pop flair, Times staff writer Todd Martens even tapped her as an artist to watch in 2009. Though she garnered a wealth of critical acclaim, her disc didn’t catch on commercially in the States, as listeners were already transfixed by a crop of British soul divas, including Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele.

Brown is hitting the road in November for a handful of shows, including a date at Hollywood’s Hotel Cafe on Nov. 9.
