As a strike loomed, the industry began talking about ‘contingency plans.’ Here are some details:
--’The View’ is a guild show, but an ABC spokesman said the daytime gabfest would not be affected by the strike. ‘We’re prepared,’ he said. ‘We have contingency plans.’ He declined to say whether that means Babs, Whoopi and the other gals will be penning their own lines.
--Shows that seemed strike-proof turned out to be vulnerable. The reality competition ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ for one, also turns out to be a guild show. Which means that come Monday, they would be dancing without any writers. (An ABC spokeswoman said the show would nonetheless continue with new episodes.)
--As networks faced the possibility of blank slates, there was some speculation that shows that have successful runs on sister channels could make their way center stage. (Why couldn’t Bravo’s ‘Project Runway’ and Heidi Klum, for example, sashay on over to NBC?)
