Queen Latifah’s new talk show: A not-so-royal return?

Queen Latifah, who has scored in music and movies, is getting ready to join the ranks of Ellen DeGeneres and Wendy Williams: She’s entering the talk show arena.

But will she succeed where she’s already failed? Despite her star status, Latifah has already flopped in the talk show field, which has proved to be treacherous for other celebrities such as Martin Short, Chevy Chase, Roseanne Barr, Joan Rivers and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

The Oscar-nominated actress will be launching a syndicated daytime talk show for fall 2013. The series will be produced by her production company, Flavor Unit Entertainment, along with Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Latifah, along with Will Smith of Overbrook Entertainment and Jada Pinkett Smith, will be among the executive producers of the series.

‘This forum is the perfect place to showcase Latifah’s tremendous range of talents and unique ability to connect and inspire people,’ said Overbrook’s Miguel Melendez.

But is the release from Sony overlooking Latifah’s previous talk show venture? She had a short-lived daytime talk show from 1999-2001.
