The Angels agreed to terms Friday on a three-year, $15-million contract with reliever Scott Downs, a left-hander who had a 2.36 earned-run average over the last four seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Downs, 34, appeared in 67 games for the Blue Jays in 2010, going 5-5 with a 2.64 ERA and 26 holds, tied for third-best in the American League.
Because Downs is a Type A free agent, the Angels will have to give their second-round pick to the Blue Jays as compensation for signing him. The Angels’ first-round pick is protected.
