UCLA basketball: Bruins fall to Washington, 74-63

UCLA’s attempt at a second consecutive valiant comeback came up short Friday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins trimmed what had been a 17-point deficit with 14 minutes 6 seconds remaining to four on two occasions but could get no closer during a 74-63 loss to Washington that ended a six-game winning streak.
Matt Bryan-Amaning scored 21 points and Isaiah Thomas had 17 for the Huskies (10-3 overall, 2-0 Pacific 10 Conference), who have won a school-record six consecutive conference games on the road dating to last season.
Reeves Nelson had 19 points and Tyler Honeycutt and Malcolm Lee 12 apiece for UCLA (9-5, 1-1), which shot only 35.3% to Washington’s 50% and could not fully capitalize on taking 21 more free throws than the Huskies. The Bruins made 25 of 36 foul shots.
UCLA freshman Joshua Smith fouled out for the first time in his fledgling career with 2:34 remaining. He finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
