NFL cancels next month’s rookie symposium because of lockout

It’s only May, but the NFL has canceled its first league event due to the lockout.

Next month’s rookie symposium has been called off because of “the uncertainty of the labor issues we are facing and the logistical challenges of conducting the symposium,” league spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday.

The event, originally scheduled to start June 26, gives rookies guidelines for money management and life skills and presents an opportunity to meet current and former players.

Teams have not been able to communicate with their recently drafted players since the league gained a court ruling allowing the lockout to continue, at least for now. A U.S. District Court on June 3 will hear the league’s appeal of an injunction that would lift the lockout.

OK, so it’s only the rookie symposium, something most people probably don’t care about or weren’t even aware of in the first place.

But, still, the NFL has started canceling events ... is anyone else feeling slightly panicked by this?
