Angels get a scare when Dan Haren is hit

The Angels received a huge scare in the eighth inning of their game with Toronto on Wednesday when Eric Thames lined a shot back up the middle, striking pitcher Dan Haren on his left wrist.

Haren went down immediately, writhing on the ground in pain as teammates and trainers rushed toward the mound. After a moment, Haren stood up and, grimacing, walked off the field. Second baseman Maicer Izturis gathered up the ground ball and threw to first to end the inning, leaving Haren in line for his 16th win of the season, which would match a career high.

Haren gave up just a run on a solo homer by Thames in the sixth. He scattered four hits in his eight innings, striking out four. There was no immediate word on his condition but he did leave the field under his own power.
