Ducks’ Jacques suspended for five regular-season games

The NHL’s response to the actions of Ducks enforcer Jean-Francois Jacques was a swift one, and a tough sanction.

Jacques will miss the remainder of the preseason and the first five regular-season games as a result of the incident with Canucks forward Mike Duco on Saturday at Vancouver late in the third period. NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan cited rule 70.2 in announcing the disciplinary action:

‘A player who has entered play while play is in progress from his own players’ bench ... who starts an altercation may be subject to discipline in accordance with Rule 28 -- supplementary discipline.’

Already, Jacques missed one game, an automatic suspension, because the instigation of the altercation came in the game’s last five minutes. The Ducks have three preseason games remaining.

He loses $17,567.55 in salary and will be eligible to return Oct. 21 against Dallas.
