The sister of one of Jerry Sandusky’s alleged molestation victims is a junior at Penn State. She says she feels ill when she hears her classmates joke about being ‘Sanduskied’ and make light of a situation that has devastated her family.
‘I can’t escape it,’ she told PennLive.com. ‘I’ve been going to minimal classes, because every class I go to I get sick to my stomach. People are making jokes about it. I understand they don’t know I’m involved and it was my brother, but it’s still really hard to swallow that.
“I’ve just been really upset about it all because a lot of people aren’t focusing on the victims in this and, instead, they’re focusing on other things, like football. As much as you shouldn’t blame the football players ... they should be focusing on their respect.’
Sandusky, a former assistant football coach at Penn State, was charged Friday with 40 counts of sex crimes against boys. On Wednesday, head Coach Joe Paterno was fired after it was discovered that he didn’t alert the police when a graduate student told him that he witnessed Sandusky assault a 10-year-old boy in a school shower.
The students have had mixed reactions to the news.
Though some wore blue ribbons on their lapels on Wednesday in support of the victims, others staged a mini riot Wednesday evening proclaiming that the firing of Paterno was unjust.
“I had a bunch of friends that actually went,” the sister said.
