Less than a week after its unveiling and more than a month before it officially goes on sale, preorders for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet are reportedly strong.
Amazon has received more than 250,000 preorders for the $199 tablet computer in the five days since its launch, according to a leaked sales report to tech site Cult of Android. That averages out to about 50,000 per day.
In contrast, about 2.5 million iPad 2 tablets were sold in the first month it was available, while Research in Motion managed to sell only an estimated 250,000 Blackberry tablets in its first month.
Although the 7-inch tablet can not compare to the Apple iPad in terms of features, a comparison of the sales figures lends an idea of how successful the Kindle Fire potentially could be if orders continue to roll in briskly.
