Wow! Carpinteria‘s Jacob Ranger scored a Nordhoff tournament record 48 points in the Warriors’ 69-66 pool-play victory over Rio Mesa on Thursday. I knew Ranger was poised to have a big season, but I thought he’d have to shake off a little early-season rust before breaking any scoring records.
Of course, I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. The 6-foot-4 senior scored 23 points in the Warriors’ season opener Wednesday and was named one of the top players in Ventura/Central Coast region by Rivals.com this week.
As a junior, Ranger averaged 25.8 points a game and more than 11 rebounds a game. And I’m looking forward to what should be a memorable senior campaign for UC Davis-bound shooting guard.
