Redlands East Valley’s offense used up the first eight minutes of the third quarter but had to settle for a 26-yard field goal that cut Corona Santiago’s lead in this Inland Division semifinal to 22-10.
The Sharks went three-and-out on their first drive of the second half. Santiago is beginning to make mistakes. The Wildcats have twice got the Sharks to jump offsides on fourth and short, including a fourth and four near midfield on REV’s second drive of the half.
However, USC-bound running back Chris Polk was just tackled hard and fumbled the ball away near the Shark 30-yard line. Polk was laid out with an apparent left shoulder injury, but he jogged off the field
The rain has lightened up, allowing the Wildcats to complete a couple passes, but this game is largely in the hands Polk. If he can’t continue, the Wildcats are in trouble. They might be in trouble anyway. Looks like Polk is back on the field for REV’s first drive of fourth quarter.
Polk has one touchdown, but UCLA-bound running back/defensive back Anthony Dye of Santiago has two. UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell made a nice grab with that kid.
