Well, the Birmingham-Crenshaw game is quickly turning into the blowout I thought it would live up to be.

Thanks to a bizarre 64-yard TD reception by WR De’von Flournoy on Birmingham’s first pass attempt of the game, the Patriots lead, 28-0, at halftime.

Flournoy’s TD, however, could have easily been an interception off QB Morey Croson. DB Clint Floyd actually bobbled the ball before it bounced into the hands of Flournoy, who fended off a last-ditch tackle attempt by another defender to score.

Crenshaw had a couple chances to get on the scoreboard, but each time its offense fizzled out in Birmingham territory. Patriots safety Okechukwu Meke broke up what would have been a Cougars’ TD pass, and a bad snap a couple plays later resulted in a 23-yard loss that killed the drive.

Birmingham RB Milton Knox has 102 yards and three TDs in 17 carries and Crenshaw QB Cameron Hart has completed six of 16 passes for 70 yards. However, the Cougars have negative-24 yards rushing. Ouch!

And I don’t expect things to get any better in the second half.
