In a surprising move just days before official practice begins for high school baseball, Woodland Hills El Camino Real has replaced second-year Coach Billy Ramirez with Vince Orlando, a former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame player who serves as assistant athletic director.
‘We felt we needed to go in a different direction,’ said Athletic Director Richard Yi.
Orlando will serve as an interim coach. Ramirez replaced Matt LaCour last season for an El Camino Real program that’s had a long history of baseball success. Orlando once was an assistant coach for LaCour but has no intention of keeping the job long term.
