I’ve been blogging a lot about the soccer teams over a Quartz Hill lately, but what can I say? They’re both pretty good.

Just days after the boys’ team clinched the Golden League title, the girls clinched their league title outright with an impressive, 4-1 victory over Highland. Yes, the same Highland team that was riding a 40-game league unbeaten streak until Quartz Hill snapped it, and yes, the Bulldogs did have USC-bound scoring terror Samantha Johnson in the lineup this time.

But Quartz Hill’s stingy defense kept Johnson in check, and Sonya Bernal scored her ninth and 10th goals of the season for the Rebels in their big win.

Now, that they’ve beaten their cross-valley rivals, can the Rebels do anything interesting in the playoffs? We’ll see if they’re capable of winning any admiration and respect from outside the Antelope Valley.

By the way, I’d love to see a match between Quartz Hill and Desert Christian. Maybe Rebels Coach Robert Daniel and DC Coach Deann Lewis can set something up for next season.
