The Jurupa Valley boys’ basketball team limited Patriot to 49 points again Thursday night. Unfortunately, the Jaquars could only scrape together 46 in the Southern Section Division IV-AA final at Colony High.

That represented a season-low point total for Jurupa Valley, a team that defeated the Warriors, 70-49, in a Sunkist League game Jan. 11, but then lost the rematch three weeks later, 58-54.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more teams win a section title with less than 50 points this weekend.

The first that comes to mind is Etiwanda in the Division I-A final against Riverside King. In fact, if the Eagles can keep the score in the mid-50s, they stand a great chance of winning Saturday night at the Honda Center.

West Valley and Perris also know each other very well after facing off twice during Sunbelt League play. Maybe too well. Don’t expect to see many easy baskets in the Division III-A final Saturday morning at the Honda Center, unless you count the free throws.
