Baseball: Marlins make Patriot’s Skipworth No. 6 pick overall

Riverside Patriot catcher Kyle Skipworth can start thinking about what he’ll do with his bonus money after the Florida Marlins drafted him No. 6 overall Thursday in Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft.
Last year, the Marlins took Matt Dominguez from Chatsworth No. 12 and also selected Mike Stanton from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in the second round. Larry Beinfest, the Marlins’ president of baseball operations, is a Chatsworth graduate who certainly knows the strength of Southern California high school baseball.
Aaron Hicks of Long Beach Wilson should be the next Southern California pick.
