Football: Believe it or not, Mims is why Palmdale is hot

Don’t look now, but Palmdale has cracked The Times’ list of the Southland’s top teams. And Brandon Mims is largely, though not solely, responsible for the early success of the Falcons, who make their debut in the rankings at No. 25 this week.
The senior quarterback did the unthinkable in opener, guiding his team to an impressive 29-6 victory over Hart. For an encore, Mims completed 9 of 11 passes for 248 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s 55-19 victory over Kennedy.
Things don’t get any easier for Mims & Co. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder figures to be tested once again on Friday as Palmdale faces one of Hart’s Foothill League counterparts, host Valencia, on Friday in what is shaping up as another tough test.
A good effort could be enough to attract some added interest from Division I scouts. A poor showing, and Mims might have to start thinking about going the junior college route. One thing is certain, the Falcons wouldn’t be in the position they are without him.
