Football: Five locals in Hawaii all-star game

Apparently, it’s never too early for a high school football all-star game.

While the elite City and Southern Section schools are finishing up the regular season, five local players are in Hawaii gearing up for the first Hawaii/Polynesia–Mainland Bowl, which will be televised live on FSN Prime Ticket this Friday (Dec. 12) at 10 p.m. PT.

A team of 40 mainland players will take on a Hawaii team comprised of 38 players from across the State, three players from American Samoa, and nine mainland players with Hawaii ties.

Gahr quarterback Corey Nielsen will suit up for the Hawaii team (he’s headed for the University of Hawaii next fall), while wide receivers Jemari Roberts (Long Beach Wilson), Randall Carroll (Cathedral), and Shaquelle Evans (Inglewood) and offensive lineman Chris Jimenez (Cathedral) are listed on the Mainland roster. Cathedral assistant coach Chris Flores is on the coaching staff for the Mainland squad.
