Encino Crespi improved to 5-0 and won the Easton tournament championship Saturday night with a 7-1 victory over West Ranch.
Ryan Brockett allowed one run in five innings, with Sean McIntyre and Josh Mason each throwing a scoreless inning of relief. Mason had three hits, including a controversial two-run home run in the fourth inning when the umpires ruled the ball went over the left-field fence while others thought it had bounced over.
The big surprise is how well Crespi’s pitching has held up after two weeks. Celts Coach Scott Muckey was not impressed with the pitching during winter ball but things have changed.
Another team that raised its record to 5-0 is Simi Valley Royal, which defeated Burbank, 4-3, in the Southern California Invitational. Royal, with its devastating one-two punch of pitchers Bryan Berglund and Cody Buckel, opens Marmonte League play next week.
