You get the feeling that if these teams played each other 10 times, each would win five games.
That’s how evenly matched Loyola and Eisenhower appear today in the Southern California Division II regional championship at Pauley Pavilion. The second-seeded Eagles are leading the Cubs, 34-33, at halftime.
Senior guard Andrew Bock has eight points and senior forward Nazareth Richardson five for the Eagles, who are winning despite shooting only 32.4% to Loyola’s 53.3%. The Cubs have hurt themselves by committing 13 turnovers.
Senior forward Carl Hoffman, a lumbering big man with unorthodox form, has 16 points on eight-for-nine shooting and eight rebounds for Loyola.
This is a rematch of the Southern Section Division II-A championship won by Eisenhower, 79-73, last Saturday. The Eagles trailed by two points with 1 minute 38 seconds remaining before senior guard Nicholas Carter made a pair of three-pointers.
