Reseda Cleveland pitcher John Wilson has been selected the player of the year from the West Valley League. That’s a big honor considering that four of the league members made it to the City Section Division I semifinals. Wilson was the losing pitcher in Saturday’s championship game to Chatsworth.
First-team all-league choices included pitchers Mike Renner (Chatsworth) and Jose Cardona (El Camino Real), infielders Juan Perez (Cleveland), Niko Garcia (Cleveland), Robert Almendarez (Cleveland), Kasey Toven (Chatsworth), Alex DeLeon (El Camino Real), Alex Mejia (El Camino Real), Alex Pyle (Granada Hills), David Park (Granada Hills) and Alex Sawelson (Taft).
Others were catchers Spencer Horowitz (Cleveland) and Carlos Escobar Jr. (Chatsworth), outfielders Jeremy Stearn (Cleveland), Nick Kaid (Cleveland), Andy Weissberg (Chatsworth), Andrew Klausmeier (Chatsworth), Bryce Kelly (Granada Hills) and Kevin Torres (Birmingham), plus utility players Travis Keppel (El Camino Real), Michael Booth (El Camino Real) and Jordan Berger (Taft).
