A final City Section appeals meeting is planned for Tuesday at Los Angeles Roybal for those schools that don’t like the proposed new leagues for the 2010-11 sports season, and in the San Fernando Valley, the issue continues to generate controversy.
As realignment committee chairman Bob Marks indicated Monday at the Interscholastic Athletic Commmittee meeting, there is no consensus on what the leagues in the Valley should look like.
As it stands after the latest appeal, Granada Hills has been put back in the West Valley League, which also includes Taft, El Camino Real, Birmingham, Cleveland and Chatsworth. A new Central League would be made up of Arleta, Canoga Park, East Valley, Panorama and Van Nuys. The East Valley League would be Byrd, Monroe, Grant, North Hollywood and Poly. The North Valley would be Reseda, Kennedy, Sylmar, San Fernando and Verdugo Hills.
Van Nuys and Monroe are both appealing the decision Tuesday. Others aren’t happy that there will be too many five-team leagues, creating difficulties in finding nonleague football games.
After the final appeal meeting, the proposal will be sent to IAC for a final vote in the fall. Prediction: More changes are coming.
