Baseball: El Camino Real advances in VIBL playoffs

They’re down to 16 teams in the single-elimination VIBL playoffs after Wednesday’s first-round games. El Camino Real got a complete game from Luke Laurita in a 5-1 win over Canyon Country Canyon.
Ryan Paramo hit a two-run walk-off home run to lead Alemany past Westlake, 4-2.
The biggest upset was No. 28 Burroughs defeating No. 7 Burbank, 8-3, behind pitcher Luis Pereya. No. 9 Valencia also was beaten by No. 24 Birmingham, 5-4. Birmingham got a complete game from Steven Rodriguez.
No. 20 Hart upset No. 13 Loyola, 3-2.
The sports era ended for Van Nuys Montclair Prep, which lost to Simi Valley, 14-4. The school is eliminating sports.
Second-round games are set for Friday, and the best one could be Harvard-Westlake hosting Hart at 5 p.m. at O’Malley Field.
