CIF reaches agreement with Time Warner Cable for TV rights

Time Warner Cable has reached agreement on a 15-year contract with the California Interscholastic Federation to televise state and regional championships for boys’ and girls’ competitions, CIF Executive Director Marie Ishida announced Thursday. No financial details were released.

The contract begins this school year, with Time Warner scheduled to broadcast at least 60 championship games via television and the Internet and 80 in future years.

Negotiations are still taking place for Time Warner to become involved in regular-season high school events.

According to Ishida, Time Warner would use all its platforms, including live broadcasts, video on demand and webcasting. Time Warner will take over from Fox Sports West in broadcasting state championships in football, basketball, track and field and girls’ volleyball, among others.
