Trinity League is set to introduce motion to get rid of transfer rule

The Trinity League plans to introduce a proposal at the Southern Section Council meeting next month to eliminate the CIF state rule that makes athletes ineligible for one year if they transfer for athletically motivated reasons, according to Jerome Jackson, the attorney who represents the Diocese of Orange and Santa Ana Mater Dei in a lawsuit against the Southern Section.

The proposal must be passed by representatives of the schools who make up the Southern Section Council before the other nine sections in the state can consider it.

‘It should and will be passed,’ said Jackson, who insisted there is ‘overwhelming support’ from private and public schools to eliminate the rule.

If the proposal is approved, Jackson said, ‘It will force the state to come up with a rational solution to this situation of students transferring from one school to another.’
