Boys’ basketball: LB Poly-Bishop Gorman play on Sunday

With teams allowed to go nonstop in the off season, Long Beach Poly and other basketball schools are taking advantage and trying to play as many top teams as possible.
The Jackrabbits get to face Las Vegas Bishop Gorman on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Player’s Edge complex in Corona as part of an all-day Sunday league.
Games and showcases have been going on seemingly every weekend since school began in September. They can continue all the way up to the official start of basketball practice in early November.
This is the result of getting rid of the rule that barred coaches from working with their athletes during the school year when their sport was not in session.
‘I think it allows you to identify your weaknesses and strengths before you play real games,’ Poly Coach Sharrief Metoyer said of his team playing so many games in the off season.
