Sophomore quarterback Brandon Dawkins of Westlake Village Oaks Christian has already surpassed former Lions quarterback Jimmy Clausen for best single-game passing performance in school history.
Dawkins set a school record on Friday, passing for 389 yards and four touchdowns in a 50-0 victory over Simi Valley Royal. That broke the old record of 367 yards set by Clausen in 2006.
‘It was really a big accomplishment,’ Dawkins said.
Dawkins, who’s 6 feet 3 and only 15 years old, has made stunning progress since taking over as the starting quarterback in the third week of the season. He has completed 67 of 92 passes for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Asked what Clausen might think of breaking his record, Dawkins said, ‘I don’t think he’s going to be too happy about it.’
Clausen’s brothers, Casey and Rick, help coach the quarterback position at Oaks Christian.
