South Gate has pulled off a coaching coup, getting Jose Casagran to come out of coaching retirement to take over the program.
Casagran resigned at Los Angeles Roosevelt after the 2002 season. In five years, he was 43-14 and won three Eastern League championships. He also had a 4-1 record against Garfield.
He has been teaching at West Adams. He plans to bring together some of his former assistants from when he coached at Roosevelt and Garfield.
