With 6:53 left in the third quarter in a Western League showdown, Palisades held a 45-19 lead over Fairfax, and the big question was whether there would be running clock in the fourth quarter.
Then came a huge surprise. Fairfax launched a frantic comeback. The Lions closed to 62-60 with 14 seconds left and had the ball. But a Brendyn Taylor three-point attempt didn’t fall, and Jalon Wilson was fouled. He made two free throws with two seconds left, and Palisades came away with a 64-60 victory.
Landon Drew scored 19 points and Taylor 15 for the Lions (10-6, 3-1). Palisades had five players score in double figures. Donovan Johnson led the Dolphins with 12 points. Wilson made all eight of his free throws in the fourth quarter.
Besides shooting horribly in the first half, Fairfax finished the game making just 21 of 40 free throws. Palisades is 9-8, 3-0.
L.A. University defeated LACES, 66-56. Malik Spears had 23 points.
