Boys’ basketball: Mission League goes five for five in playoffs

The pressure is on Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Los Angeles Loyola after five of the seven Mission League teams won their playoff openers on Wednesday night.

In Division 4AA, Chaminade won its road game at Morro Bay, 71-52. Jaron Martin scored 25 points and Jack Williams 19. The Eagles will face Oaks Christian, a 67-26 winner over Besant Hill, at home on Friday night in the second round.

Harvard-Westlake defeated Whitney, 74-40. Josh Hearlihy led the Wolverines with 12 points. They will face host JSerra on Friday. Crespi defeated Rosamond, 84-45, and will take on Sierra Canyon. Michael Milligan Jr. had 15 points.

St. Francis won its 4A opener over Mountain View, 66-33. Zack Gardea had 21 points, but the Golden Knights lost Emerson Castaneda to a knee injury in the first quarter. Top-seeded Alemany defeated Artesia, 87-61, in its 3A opener. Marqueze Coleman and K.J. Moffett each had 14 points.

Notre Dame plays Paraclete in a 4AA opener Thursday. Loyola opens on Friday in 1AA at home against Trabuco Hills.

Nicholas Stover had 20 points in Windward’s 88-57 win over La Salle in 4AA. Grant Jerrett scored 25 points and had eight rebounds in La Verne Lutheran’s 72-29 win over Pasadena Marshall. Cameron Osorno had 17 points. Sierra Canyon defeated Malibu, 64-53. Jahmel Taylor scored 23 points.

Price defeated Blair, 87-52. Top-seeded Gardena Serra defeated Salesian, 79-30. Daddy Ugbede had 16 points. Bishop Montgomery defeated Templeton, 66-26.

In 4A, Brentwood received 21 points and 15 rebounds from Leland King and 20 points and 11 assists from Tra Holder in an 82-38 win over California Military Institute. Campbell Hall defeated Kern Valley, 64-48. Cole Huff had 22 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Holiday had 16 points.

Top-seeded La Verne Damien defeated El Dorado, 57-37, in 3AAA. Freshman Jeremy Hemsley scored 16 points and Chris Reyes added 15.

In 3A, No. 2-seeded St. John Bosco defeated Jurupa Hills, 68-27. Isaac Hamilton scored 18 points and Daniel Hamilton 15.
