San Luis Obispo Mission Prep made a desperate comeback in the final few minutes, cutting its deficit to five points with less than 40 seconds left, but Stockton Brookside Christian held on for a 70-64 victory in the CIF state Division V championship game at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.
Forward Bri Harvey had 22 points and guard Jenna Dunbar scored 11 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter for Mission Prep, which lost for the first time in 30 games. The Royals (32-2) dropped to 0-7 in state finals.
Sophomore point guard Tiara Tucker scored 28 points for Brookside Christian (30-4), which won despite being outscored 19-10 in the fourth quarter. The Knights were outrebounded by a 37-26 margin.
Brookside Christian’s victory was its first state title and marked Northern California’s fourth win in the first five state championship games this year.
Up next is the Division V boys final between Sun Valley Village Christian and defending champion St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda.
