Sophomore Josh Rosen and junior Andrew Katnik are getting the opportunity to compete this summer for the starting position at Bellflower St. John Bosco. Both were in action on Saturday during the Bellflower tournament.
Katnik was on varsity last season but didn’t play because of a shoulder injury. He has more experience. But Rosen has a strong arm, lots of confidence and is very accurate.
Besides the St. John Bosco quarterbacks, Saturday’s Bellflower tournament showed how much talent Gardena Serra truly has.
Quarterback Jalen Greene is going to be allowed to throw deep a lot more times this coming season. The Cavaliers had several injuries that kept out defensive standouts Adoree Jackson and Dwight Williams, but they have so much speed and talent that Coach Scott Altenberg’s big task is going to be finding playing time.
Serra ended up winning the tournament championship and going unbeaten. The Cavaliers defeated St. John Bosco in the final and Alhambra in the semifinals. St. John Bosco defeated St. Francis in the semifinals.
