Three American students arrested in Egypt protests

Three American college students have been accused of throwing petrol bombs at Egyptian police during a protest near Cairo’s Tahrir Square.
The American University of Cairo students, identified by school officials as Gregory Porter, Luke Gates and Derrik Sweeney, were arrested Monday night during protests demanding an end to military rule, Reuters news agency reported.
A university spokeswoman, Morgan Roth, told the news agency that it was not known if any charges had been filed. Two U.S. embassy officers and a legal counselor with the university were sent to meet with authorities about the case.
On Tuesday, the three were shown on state television standing with their backs against a wall and staring at the camera. They were identified only as ‘foreigners.’
State media reported they had been detained after they threw petrol bombs at police protecting the Interior Ministry.
