A Los Angeles Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics team was unable to find an intruder who they believed barricaded himself inside a Northridge home Wednesday night after burglarizing the home and firing at a sheriff’s deputy.
Officers called off a 4 1/2-hour search in the 17400 block of Parthenia Street at 9:45 p.m.
Sgt. Gary Farnham said a resident of the house discovered it had been ransacked upon returning home Wednesday afternoon. She flagged down a sheriff’s deputy who was driving by.
The deputy, who was not identified, reported hearing shots as he went up the walkway, and summoned help. Police cordoned off five blocks surrounding the house and evacuated six neighboring families, Farnham said. A search of the house, attic and garage turned up no one.
