MCI Communications’

MCI Communications Corp. reported that earnings for the year dropped 70%.

For the entire year of 1984, the Washington-based company had net income of $59.2 million on revenue of $1.96 billion, compared to net income of $202.9 million on revenue of $1.52 billion the previous year.

MCI Chairman William G. McGowan said that, while earnings continue to be affected adversely by increases in access charges, the company had an improvement in the latter half of the year because “the company’s higher fixed costs continued to be spread over a growing revenue base.”
