Battleship Heads for Nicaragua
Associated Press
WASHINGTON — The battleship Iowa has left Norfolk, Va., on a monthlong training cruise that one high ranking Navy officer said will include a “show-the-flag” mission off the coast of Nicaragua.
In a brief statement today, the Navy said the Iowa and the guided missile destroyer King will rendezvous with the guided missile cruiser Ticonderoga. The officer, who demanded anonymity, said the vessels will likely arrive off the east coasts of Nicaragua and Honduras “by the end of the week” and spend a few days before moving on.
