MOBILE, Ala. — Carbon monoxide leaked inside a private nursing home Wednesday, killing an elderly invalid woman and poisoning eight other persons, including two who were critically injured, authorities said.
Emergency units were called to the residence by police Sgt. James West, who was at the facility to visit his bedridden mother, police Maj. Tommy Lee said.
All of the injured and the dead woman were found in their beds, except for a woman who was passed out on a couch, paramedic Ken Few said.
The leak resulted from a malfunction in the heating system in the home, officials said.
