Local News in Brief : 5 Jailed in Robbery of Sherman Oaks Jewelers
Five suspects were being held Sunday in Van Nuys jail in connection with a reported $1-million Sherman Oaks jewelry store robbery that has led police to an apparent fencing operation in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.
Police would not release the names of the suspects and said that more arrests are expected.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, two men and a woman, one brandishing a gun, entered William Roberts Jewelers at 14040 Riverside Drive and demanded the jewels in the display case, police said.
The three were apprehended Saturday night in South-Central Los Angeles and arrested on suspicion of robbery, police said.
After questioning the suspects, police said, they arrested two men at a downtown Los Angeles location where most of the stolen jewelry was recovered in addition to other jewlery believed to be stolen.
Police refused to release additional details on the case because of their ongoing investigation.
