The inner council of the Palestine Liberation Organization expressed backing for PLO leader Yasser Arafat’s peace moves with Jordan, provided that they receive “full Arab support.” The statement from the 10-man PLO Executive Committee, issued in Tunisia, was the first official endorsement of the still-secret “formula for joint action” toward Mideast peace worked out by Arafat and Jordan’s King Hussein in Amman on Feb. 11. In an article in the Cairo newspaper Al Ahram, Arafat wrote that his guerrillas, meanwhile, will maintain military pressure on Israel by “escalation of armed struggle.”
